What to expect

Expect to meet lots of new and interesting people, and to push yourself both academically and socially.

Every student has a unique experience but as Loughborough has been awarded the Best Student Experience for 6 consecutive years by Times Higher Education and Whatuni’s reigning University of the Year, as voted for by our students, we’re confident you’ll have the time of your life.

Here’s a brief overview of what to expect for your first week at Loughborough University.

Collect your accommodation keys

Students living on campus will be given an arrival date. We have staggered arrivals, as this enables us to allocate parking spaces and ensure you can move into hall in line with our social distancing measures. Only one person from your household will be allowed to come with you on to campus on move in day, to minimise the numbers we have in the hall and surrounding area at any one time.

Collect your student ID card and confirm your identity

It’s important to collect your student ID card as soon as possible and before commencing your programme.  This completes the registration process and ensures you are officially enrolled as a student at Loughborough University.

If you are a home student with UK/EAA nationality and living on campus, you will be able to collect your student ID card from your hall of residence.

Get connected

You can connect your personal devices to the internet as soon as you arrive.

Don’t forget you will need your username and password to complete the secure connection to the campus network – find out how to retrieve your IT credentials here.

If you have any problems at all, do not worry – there will be help points on campus to assist you during registration.

There's also lots of useful tips and advice on our IT Services website.

Explore the campus

We always recommend new students to take some time to explore the campus. See what facilities we have which you can take advantage of and explore the beautiful woodlands. There are lots of walks on campus, and if you like exploring this is the perfect time to lead an expedition.

Loughborough Students’ Union (LSU)

Loughborough Students’ Union (LSU) will be arranging lots of online, face to face and group activities during Freshers’ Welcome to make sure you get a taste for what Loughborough has to offer. The LSU will release a short guide to freshers nearer to the time.

They’ll also hold a Freshers’ Bazaar to showcase the wide range of student societies and clubs available. Getting involved in these and other activities that LSU runs is a great way of meeting new friends and getting a feel for the community on campus.

Prepare for your first week

If you can, it’s a good opportunity to read any books or course material which you will need to read for your first week of University. Getting a head start and being prepared is always a good thing and it shows that you’re prepared and serious about your studies.

We also have a comprehensive 'Welcome to Loughborough’ transition package that will guide you through the enrolment process and prepare you for the start of term. You’ll be introduced to a number of key departments and support services and will take part in a range of preliminary workshops and activities to prepare you for the academic demands of your course.

On completion, you’ll receive your first Personal Best digital badge (Ready, Set, Loughborough) to recognise your achievements. More Personal Best badges are available as you progress through your degree.
