Curation gallery

Greetings from Joshibi Students

This exhibition is part of a joint project between Loughborough University and Joshibi University of Art and Design. It is organized by Loughborough University in cooperation with the second-year Art and Culture students of Joshibi University of Art and Design. Students from both universities created postcards on the theme of "INVERSION".

All postcards produced are displayed in the main gallery. In the curation gallery, nine 2nd year undergraduate students studying in the Concentration in Art and Culture each selected one work from each of the two universities to curate and display on a panel.

INVERSION" was an unfamiliar and difficult theme for us, and we had to start from scratch. We all researched and shared our thoughts, and deepened our understanding through repeated discussions.

The Japanese translation of "INVERSION" means "reversal," "reflection," "opposite," and "revolution”. We discussed and developed ideas from these and expressed our interpretation of "INVERSION" in the Curation Gallery provided by Loughborough University.

This year will be the 8th time the exhibition has been held, and this time it is held online and onsite. It is the first time in three years that we have been able to visit and produce the Curation Gallery onsite. We worked hard using works by students of both institutions so that everyone could enjoy the exhibition. The artists' "INVERSION" is powerfully expressed on small postcards. We hope you will enjoy the online exhibition as well.

はじめに

本展はラフバラ大学と女子美術大学の共同プロジェクトの一環として開催されるものです。
当展覧会は女子美術大学の芸術文化専攻2年生と協力してラフバラ大学が主催し「INVERSION」をテーマに両大学の学生がポストカードを制作しました。制作した全てのポストカードはメインギャラリーに展示されています。また、キュレーションギャラリーでは芸術文化専攻2年生9名が各自その中から両大学の生徒の作品をそれぞれ一つずつ選んでキュレーションをし、パネルにして展示しています。

「INVERSION」は私たちにとっては聞き馴染みもなく難しいテーマ、ゼロからのスタートでした。みんなで調べて考えたことを共有し、話し合いを重ねて理解を深めていきました。
日本語に意訳すると反転、反射、反対、逆行、革命、の意味になります。それらからイメージを膨らませて話し合い、私たちの「INVERSION」をラフバラ大学から提供していただいたキュレーションギャラリーに表現しました。

8回目の開催となる今年はオンライン開催と現地開催になります。私たちが現地に訪れてキュレーションギャラリーをプロデュースするのは三年ぶりです。皆様に楽しんでいただける展示になるよう、両学生制作に励みました。アーティストの持つ「INVERSION」が小さなポストカードに力強く表現されています。ぜひオンライン展示も合わせてお楽しみください。
