Curator comment by ISHIZAKI Niina about “Cryptograph” by Yama.

Where are we? It seems that we came here unintentionally. Nah, perhaps we wanted to come here so we can escape to another world from reality.

That person is wearing a blue and yellow dress. The person is beautiful. They are smiling at us, as if they are waiting for us. Probably, they are saying “Welcome”. In the back, we can see animal soldiers, a rabbit and crocodile standing there. If we said “Hiya” to the rabbit, what would the rabbit answer? Also, if we greeted the crocodile.... Oops, let us think that over.... we might be eaten by the crocodile. While we are thinking about this, the beautiful person doesn’t stop moving. If they continue on they will get further and further away, and we will end up being lost.

Please look at this artwork’s lines. We can see that it’s drawn using pencils or crayons. The lines look soft, gentle, and delicate. Therefore, if we don’t go up the stairs quickly it seems they might disappear. It looks like something from a “Fantasy movie”. Where is this world with colorful billowing smoke? What time is it? Do they understand our language? They don’t answer our questions and keep moving away. They are as beautiful as ever. They hold something like a tobacco pipe. The smoke flows upward. Where are they going? Also, where should we go? Can we go back to our world...?

Curator comment by ISHIZAKI Niina about “Inhuman Illusion” by Kenzie EMMOTT.

I followed you and came to an unknown place. I knew you were not human from your silhouette. You have 8 arms, and I can see your back has what looks like wings. Who are you? A human? Spider? Octopus? Or butterfly?

I don’t know, but you seem to have a lot to hide. Look closely and different stories will emerge. What are you doing now or What are you going to do? What kind of story do you imagine? What sounds do you hear? I want you to think a lot. Thinking and thinking and thinking. You can create many stories. The answer is inside of you.
