Professor Jennifer Whyte

Professor Jennifer Whyte studies how futures are made through large-scale organizing, and how digital innovation is transforming these practices. Her empirical work is on large infrastructure projects. A Professor in the School of Project Management at the University of Sydney, Australia, she is also a Professor of Systems Integration at Imperial College London, where she previously held a Royal Academy of Engineering/Laing O’Rourke chair. Her PhD is from Loughborough University (completed 2000).
She brings extensive experience advising the UK government on major project and policy initiatives, including as a member of the Construction Leadership Council, Industry Safety Strategy Group and Digital Framework Task Group. Her interests span the lifecycle of major infrastructure projects and programmes, from conception to handover and operations. She advised the Global Infrastructure Hub and co-curated the World Economic Forum Engineering and Construction Transformation Map.
She has held senior roles in universities, as Head of School and a Director for Research Centres. She is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (FICE) and has led major collaborations with government, industry, and professional bodies, translating research into actionable insights for UK and international strategies. She has served on the UKRI EPSRC Strategic Advisory Team. She has published more than 70 journal articles, with an H-index of 47, and is in the Stanford/Elsevier top 2% scholars. Her research publications include work on project leadership, systems integration, digital transformation, construction, design and visualization. She is a Senior Editor at Organization Studies and an Associate Editor at Project Management Journal.
During their IAS Fellowship, Professor Whyte will be collaborating with Professor Yang Zou from the School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering, and Professor Jan Godsell, Dean of Loughborough Business School.
