Study support

Within the Department of Computer Science you will have access to a wide range of services to support you throughout your studies. Loughborough University is well known for making sure you are looked after and receive the help you need.

Lecturers and your academic tutor

Our personal tutoring system will allow you to get help and guidance throughout your studies. Every student is assigned a member of academic staff as their personal tutor, who are friendly and approachable and available to provide pastoral care when required.

You will meet with your tutor once a week in small group tutorials during your first year.

Our approachable teaching staff operate an open-door policy. If you have further questions to ask your lecturers, you can always ask them during or after a lecture, or, if the lecturer is not in, email them to make an appointment.

You will also be able to get further help and guidance in tutorials with your Academic Tutor.

Mathematics Learning Support Centre (MLSC)

In your studies you may well encounter mathematics that is new and challenging to you. Loughborough's award-winning Mathematics Learning Support Centre (MLSC) gives you access to learning resources, study areas and mathematics drop-in surgeries with the recent addition of remote support as well as our popular 1-2-1 in person help. The MLSC provides mathematical assistance to the entire University, and is staffed five days a week in the teaching year. It offers an extensive range of online support, video tutorials, formulae leaflets and diagnostic tests to help you identify areas of weakness.

The MLSC is located in the Schofield Building, room SCH.0.20.

Peer-assisted learning

Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) offers optional weekly sessions to pupils studying a particular module. Facilitated by volunteer Peer Assisted Learning Facilitators (PALF’s), Peer Assisted Learning aims to create an opportunity for further exploration and understanding within the field of study. PAL sessions are in addition to the teaching provision that is already offered by the University, and aims to offer an informal and low-pressure environment for students of all abilities to ask questions, improve their grades, develop study skills and get to know the people on their course.
