Fees and funding

If you are looking for a scholarship to support you during your PhD in Geography and Environment at Loughborough, there are several opportunities you can consider.

Please note that a strong application will take time to develop, so make sure that you get in touch with a prospective supervisor from our team early on to discuss your proposed project.

We belong to three UKRI Doctoral Training Centres or Partnerships that offer funded studentships:

Central England NERC Training Alliance (CENTA)

CENTA stands for Central England NERC Training Alliance, a consortium of Universities, research institutes and non-academic partners for example that are working together to provide excellence in doctoral research training within the remit of the Natural Environment Research Council.

We have a range of other funded or self-funded opportunities to pursue a PhD with us.

School-wide PhD scholarships

Our School also offers PhD scholarships open to prospective Geography and Environment students. These are normally advertised in the autumn of each year on specialised websites such as jobs.ac.uk. You can also stay updated on this and other opportunities by following us on Twitter.

University-wide PhD scholarships

Loughborough University also runs several University-wide PhD scholarship schemes that are open to Geography and Environment students. These are targeted at prospective PhD students from specific countries or in specific areas of specialisation.

Self-funding

Students can also fund their own PhD, in which case they may be able to partly cover their expenses with a variety of sources of loans and support from different funders.

Please see the University’s Research degree funding page and the website of the Loughborough Doctoral College.
