Welcome to Geography and Environment
We are a friendly and vibrant community comprising over 500 undergraduate and MSc students, 40 postgraduate researchers and 50 academic, research and support staff. I’m very pleased to be a member of that community, working with talented colleagues to find out new things about the way the Earth and its people interact and to teach a subject that I love.
In the summer of 2016 we moved into a redesigned and refurbished building, with purpose-built, state of the art geography research and teaching laboratories. This consolidation and investment underlines the thriving, ambitious nature of geography at Loughborough.
We conduct cutting-edge research, working internationally with other researchers, industry and government to increase understanding of our rapidly changing planet. Our commitment to the student experience sees all teaching conducted by academic staff. This ensures that our students benefit from high-quality, research-informed teaching ensuring the very best learning experience. Our taught courses include five undergraduate and three postgraduate degrees covering a range of human and physical geography disciplines. Students choose from a fascinating range of topics (e.g. Arctic Science to Cinematic Geographies), teaching styles (e.g. tutorials, lectures, practicals, fieldtrips) and types of assessment (e.g. essays, posters, presentations). We pride ourselves in supporting our students to fulfil their potential and to graduate as confident, capable, adaptable individuals who are highly employable.
I hope that you take the opportunity to explore what we have to offer and I know that you will find studying or working with us a wonderful experience.
