Prof. John Downey, Dr Dominic Willmott, Dr Thoralf Klein and doctoral researchers Hanye Yang, Jiaxin Zhang and Haojie Fang presented their research and worked towards forging links and collaborations with Chinese academic colleagues and their universities. They were also joined by Loughborough Alumnus Dr Weili Wang, who now works at Xi'an Jiaotong University.
Loughborough was one of the best represented institutions at the conference.
This year’s conference theme "Shared Visions: Humanities in Retrospect and Prospect" allowed British and Chinese universities with outstanding reputations in the arts and humanities to share expertise and resources to encourage long term global collaboration across the discipline.
Founded in 2016, the UK-China Humanities Alliance (UKCHA) is a consortium of 17 leading universities from both countries. Loughborough University has been a member of UKCHA since 2018 with Dr Thoralf Klein is currently representing the university on UKCHA's Executive Council.
The consortium enables dialogue and discussion between academics in the UK and China, as well as collaboration in humanities research and education. Since 2018, it also sponsors the Higher Education Young Talent Alliance (HEYTA), which also organises an annual conference creating opportunities for humanities-related discussions between students.
