Price Comparison Report March 25

A recent Loughborough University report was conducted based on top selling products across all LU outlets; Pantry, Coffee House and Meet & Eat. These were compared with other universities and the health sector via TUCO, CUBO and High Street Benchmarking.

Dining Hall Meals  and Hall Meal plan

We offer community rate of £6.95 which is further discounted if purchased as part of hall meal saver this is our all-inclusive offer which offer choice of freshly cooked mains including  pasta bar, salad bar , made for your sandwich, selection of desserts, fruits  selection of hot drinks and squash. We believe is Value for money offer when dining halls are in operation and not something any other places can offer. Please note catered hall packages starts from £4.77-£5.05 per meal for same offer.

 

Cappuccino – with the volatile price changes within the coffee growing industry and an initial cost price increase of 20%, the retail outlets on Loughborough campus on average are 19% (barista), 27% (bean to cup) cheaper compared to Competitors on campus, other sectors in Higher Education and the High Street.

 

Tuna Sandwich – during the cost-of-living crisis retail negotiated with The Real Wrap company to produce a value range of 12 sandwiches which were price matched to Asda. Selling price is much lower compared to other sectors. Retail is still 14% cheaper than our nearest competitor.

 

500ml Bottle Coke – the comparison for retail to 3 other sectors is either matched or cheaper, this even includes being cheaper than one of the 5 leading supermarkets Tesco.

 

Meal Deal the comparison used was based on a value meal deal offered in retail and other competitors. In our benchmarking still the cheapest by £0.65 which equates to 16% cheaper.

 

Walkers Crisps – retail sell a 32.5g packet walkers crisp at 90p if compared to other sectors and competition this equates to a saving on average of £0.20 or 18% cheaper. Compared to our closest competitor, retail are still cheaper by 14% or £0.15.

 

Beef Burger and Chips – Catering services  will never be able to compete with big chains such as Burger King and McDonalds. In comparison we use quality ingredients to produce the meals, this is still a better price then those in the sector and a cheaper option to similar products on campus by 11% or £0.65.

 

Chocolate Chip Cookie – in the retail outlets our freshly cooked Chocolate Chip Cookie is priced on average 29% cheaper than the same product in other sectors. This equates to £0.60. Compared to others on campus, retail sell their cookies at £1.15 which is 48% cheaper.

Sausage Roll – retail cannot compete with the like of Greggs and their buying power, but we do better 2 other sectors for this product. On average retail are cheaper than these by 42% which equates to £1.19.
