IAS Summit: Rethinking Urban Inequalities

Esra Suel is an Associate Professor of Urban Analytics at the Department of Geography, University of Zurich (UZH). She received her PhD in Transport and Urban Systems from Imperial College London in 2016 and has held postdoctoral positions at Imperial College and ETH Zurich, working in interdisciplinary departments and projects spanning healthy cities, data science, and urban analytics.

In 2022, she joined University College London (UCL), where she continues to hold a part-time position as Associate Professor of City Modelling at the Bartlett Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis (CASA).

Her research focuses on developing computational methods to study built environments and human behavior in cities, with an emphasis on mobility, land use, housing, and their links to social, environmental, and health inequalities. Her current work addresses the transition to net zero, urban housing challenges, and demographic change, including aging.

During their IAS Fellowship, Associate Professor Suel will be collaborating with Professor Trivik Verma from the Department of Geography and Environment.
