Dr Alice Ojwang

Dr Alice Ojwang is a Dietitian, Diabetes Educator, and academic with over 25 years of experience bridging clinical practice, community health, and higher education. She holds a PhD in Dietetics and is recognised for her leadership in lifestyle medicine, NCD prevention, and global health research, with a specialist focus on type 2 diabetes, obesity, and metabolic health.
As Lecturer and Research Coordinator at the Technical University of Kenya, she provides interdisciplinary leadership in teaching, mentorship, and impact-driven research spanning nutrition, behavioural science, and digital health.
Dr Ojwang currently holds a European Union Horizon (Changemaker) grant on adolescent health. Additionally, she leads an Amazon Web Services-supported project on artificial intelligence for dietary assessment and carbohydrate classification. These roles demonstrate her commitment to integrating innovation and digital health into lifestyle disease prevention.
She is the founder of the Diabesity Total Lifestyle Change (DTLC) program, a structured, scalable lifestyle intervention that has supported thousands of individuals across African settings through nutrition, physical activity, and behavioural change. Her work is grounded in implementation science, translating research into practical, culturally relevant solutions.
Dr Ojwang has established international collaborations, including partnerships in Ghana and with Loughborough University through the CLiMB initiative, resulting in joint publications and ongoing research. She is committed to advancing Africa-led, policy-relevant research to address the growing burden of NCDs.
During their IAS Fellowship, Dr Ojwang will be collaborating with Dr Hibbah Araba Osei-Kwasi & Professor Amanda Daley from the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences.
