IAS Summit: Rethinking Urban Inequalities
HafenCity University Hamburg
Rico Herzog is a research associate at the City Science Lab at HafenCity University Hamburg (a collaboration with MIT Media Lab) and a policy officer at the Center of Digital Twins at the City of Hamburg’s Senate Chancellery.
From 2021-2025, he led the research on Modeling, Simulation, AI and Machine Learning in Germany’s largest smart city project “Connected Urban Twins” and managed the scientific part of “DIPAS Analytics”, an AI based support system for the evaluation of open participatory data.
Focusing on the interplay of digital models and simulations with planning practice and public administration, he explores new multi-modeling approaches on capturing urban complexity in the digital sphere. Further academic interest lies in public value conflicts in urban planning and in serious gaming as a simulation method.
During their IAS Fellowship Rico will be collaborating with Professor Trivik Verma from the Department of Geography and Environment.
