David Braithwaite received his Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology and Cognitive Science from Indiana University in 2014 (dissertation: “Grounding mathematics learning”; mentor: Robert Goldstone).

From 2014 to 2018, he served as an Institute of Education Sciences Postdoctoral Fellow in the Psychology Department at Carnegie Mellon University (mentor: Robert Siegler). In 2018, he joined the Psychology Department of Florida State University, where he is now an Associate Professor in Cognitive and Developmental Psychology and the director of the Queen of the Sciences lab. His research interests are logical and mathematical thinking, learning, and development. He studies these topics through a combination of correlational and experimental methods and formal cognitive modelling.

During their IAS Fellowship Dr Braithwaite will be collaborating with Professor Matthew Inglis & Professor Lara Alcock from the Department of Mathematics Education.
