Hideyasu Shimadzu is a Professor of Data Science and leading the Data Modelling group with the Department of Data Science at Kitasato University, Japan. He obtained his MSc and PhD degrees from Keio University, Japan. Previously he worked for Loughborough University, the University of St Andrews and Australian Government Geoscience Australia.

He has been internationally active in the statistical modelling research field, focusing on ecological data science, particularly quantifying and evaluating biodiversity change over space and time, while working closely with expert scientists in the area. His general interests lie at the intersection of data analysis/modelling and subject-driven sciences, such as agricultural, biological, ecological, public health and sports sciences, with scientific papers published. He has also served as an associate editor for international journals, such as the Journal of Agricultural, Biological and Environmental Statistics and the Japanese Journal of Statistics and Data Sciences.

During their IAS Fellowship, Professor Shimadzu is collaborating with Dr Emma Pullen from the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences.
