Dr Daniel H. Karney

Dr Daniel H. Karney is an Associate Professor of Economics at Ohio University in Athens, OH (USA). Dr Karney specializes in energy and environmental policy.
Dr Karney earned his M.A. (2009) and Ph.D. (2014) in Economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. From 2004-2007, Dr Karney worked at ICF International in Fairfax, VA as an energy and environmental policy consultant after graduating with a B.A. in Economics and Mathematics from Grinnell College (Grinnell, IA USA). As an expert, Dr Karney has been quoted in The Columbus Dispatch and Columbus Business First newspapers, as well as the Cleveland.com news site. Dr Karney has published academic articles in several peer-reviewed journals including Energy Economics, Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, Contemporary Economic Policy, Economic Modelling, and Journal of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economics.
Dr Karney presents his work regularly at academic conferences sponsored by organizations such as the Midwest Economics Association (MEA), Southern Economic Association (SEA), Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (AERE), and the National Association of Economic Research (NBER). Dr. Karney won the 2022-23 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 4th EmPOWER Air Data Challenge Winner for a project titled "The Effect of Thermal Electric Generator Ramping on Emissions, Regulatory Compliance, and the Duck Curve."
During their IAS Residential Fellowship, Dr Karney is collaborating with Professor Monica Giulietti and Dr Morakinyo Adetutu from the Loughborough Business School.
