Undergraduate entry requirements for students from USA

If you are a student from USA and you would like to study here at Loughborough University, please take a look at the entry requirements listed below.

United States of America

For students studying in the American education system, typical offers for entry onto undergraduate level courses are based on obtaining between 3.2 and 3.8 in the High School Diploma along with achievement in Advanced Placement Exams (from our approved list) or SAT II Subject Specific Tests. We would typically require between ‘4, 4, 4’ and ‘5, 5, 5’ in 3 AP exams from our approved list below or between ‘650, 650, 650’ and ‘750, 700, 700’ in 3 SAT subject tests.

Approved List of AP Exams:

  • Biology
  • Calculus AB
  • Calculus BC
  • Chemistry
  • Physics (as half courses B and C)
  • English Literature and Composition
  • English Language and Composition
  • French Language
  • French Literature
  • German Language
  • Italian Language and Culture
  • Latin Literature
  • Latin: Vergil
  • Spanish Language
  • Spanish Literature
  • European History
  • United States History
  • World History

Applicants who have taken 2 AP Exams from the above list and at least 2 other AP Exams will normally be considered but are advised to contact their chosen Department in advance. We also welcome applications from students who are studying 3 IB Higher Level Certificates alongside the High School Diploma.

Where courses have an A Level maths requirement, it would be necessary for applicants to achieve a high mark in AP Calculus BC. For programmes that require achievement in GCSE Maths, we would normally look for a score of ‘570’ or higher in SAT I Math.

To satisfy English language requirements, we normally ask for a score of ‘610’ in SAT I Evidence-Based Reading/Writing although some programmes have higher requirements.

If you have completed the High School Graduation Diploma without taking AP Exams, SAT subject tests or IB Higher Level subjects, you may be eligible for our International Foundation programme.
