HELM consortium members and their roles
University of Hull
The University of Hull was responsible for providing Engineering Examples and Engineering Case Studies for many Workbooks; for all the fully developed Case Studies in Workbook 48 (Engineering Case Studies); for all of Workbook 34 (Modelling Motion), and for much of Workbook 47 (Mathematics and Physics Miscellany).
Team leader and principal author was Professor Keith Attenborough.
University of Manchester
The University of Manchester was responsible for developing the second year level Workbooks 27 to 29 (Multiple Integration and Vector Calculus). They also contributed to the development of Engineering examples in collaboration with the University of Hull.
Team leader and principal author was Dr Colin Steele.
Loughborough University was responsible for management, evaluation and dissemination for the project.
Loughborough University was responsible for developing first year level Workbooks 1 to 20, second year level Workbooks 21 to 26, Workbook 46, Workbook 49 (Tutor’s Guide) and Workbook 50 (Student’s Guide).
Loughborough University was responsible for completing CAL segments and for coordinating and completing banks of CAA questions for most Workbooks.
Team leaders were Dr David Green and Dr Martin Harrison, and principal author was Dr Joe Ward.
University of Reading
The University of Reading was responsible for developing Workbooks 30 to 33 on numerical techniques used in mathematical engineering at first and second year levels, and related CAA questions.
Team leader was Prof David Stirling and principal author Dr Peter Chamberlain.
University of Sunderland
The University of Sunderland was responsible for developing Workbooks 35 to 45 on statistics at first and second year levels, and related CAA questions.
Team leader was Walter Middleton and principal author Dr Malcolm Farrow (now at Newcastle University).
