Abstract: The subject of the talk is a finite size coupled map lattice where the coupling is of rare and strong nature, referred to as 'coupling by collision'. We give a formula for the collision rate per lattice unit and a corresponding first collision time law by deriving a non-trivial first order approximation for the leading eigenvalue of the rare event transfer operator.
