Classical many-body systems that display slow collective relaxation - the typical example being glass formers - do so due to effective constraints in the their dynamics. The simplest manifestation of this principle is in kinetically constrained models where dynamical constraints are explicit. I will review this approach to slow dynamics, discuss how this way of thinking can extend also to slow quantum systems, and will highlighting the crossover of ideas and methods between classical and quantum non-equilibrium.
