PhD Topic/Title: Rainfall downscaling techniques for surface water flood risk modelling on the global scale
Research
There will be more than 70% of the world’s population live in the city and most of the upcoming urbanization is expected to take place at developing regions like Africa and Asia. However, the relatively lack of local rain gauge records has the negative impact on the urbanization in those regions. Without the records of the historical rainfall data, it is difficult to generate an accurate IDF(Intensity-Duration-Frequency) curve which is essential for the infrastructure designing such as the reservoir and flooding defend structure construction. Zijie’s PhD-research aim to establish a consistent rainfall scaling method on the global scale to describe the rainfall pattern especially for data scarce regions.
