Planning your day carefully is a great way to get the most of our Inspiring Minds event. Each session represents a different subject and there are several sessions running at the same time. You can pick one session for each time slot from the list available at that time. At the bottom of the page you will also find our Pre-Event Information, which contains information about travel, dress code, etc.

Firstly, read through all of the session descriptions below. You can choose one option from each session time. Try to pick at least one subject that you are seriously considering but do not be afraid to try something new and pick what you think sounds interesting.

Have a go at a cameraless photography technique displaying tones in reverse by placing objects to create a composition directly on photographic paper and exposing to light.

Take part in a practical workshop led by staff and students from the textiles and fashion departments at Loughborough. Using different techniques and materials, mend and enhance an old, unloved peice of clothing.

About  Making an informed and strong application through UCAS is a lengthy process, lasting approximately 18 months from initial research to enrolling on a degree programme. This session will take you on a tour through the process so you understand what will happen at each step and can see where you need to take action. We will also emphasis the importance of your Personal Statement and help you get started!

Design Emotionally Durable Design 
About

This is a taster lecture with a design activity to consider how we might create stronger connections with our possessions to prevent premature disposal and unnecessary waste. I outline the issues with wasted products, strategies for extending product life (through fostering emotional connection) and then give the students an opportunity to consider how they might ensure a mobile phone is kept 10 years +.

Design  

An Introduction to Digital Design & Fabrication Tools 

About                                                                                                     

This will be a lecture-based session outlining how digital design & fabrication tools can be integrated into the design process. The session will include a live demo of 3D scanning equipment alongside example project work showcasing approaches to digital design workflow.

However, there will be a timetable of sessions for parents to attend, which will be given out on the day of the event. Parent/ guardians are also welcome to go into Loughborough to explore the town during the day.
