Explore More Taster Days

Events for students with care-experience

At Loughborough, we recognise that students who have experienced the care system in the UK are statistically less likely to progress into higher education due to the additional barriers that they face. We also understand that these students may need more pastoral support and financial help.

In recognition of this, we are holding our Explore More Taster Days for care-experienced and look-after young people and their supporting adults.

Each year we host fun and informative days on our campus that will provide a useful insight into application to university, university life and the support services and funding available to care-experienced students.

Loughborough staff and students will lead academic taster sessions, presentations about finance and support, campus tours and some fun, practical activities which will give you a taste of university life.

You will also get the chance to find out all you need to know about applying to university as a care-experienced young person.

Explore More Virtual School Taster Days

Our Explore More Virtual School Taster Days are designed for looked-after and care-experienced young people year 7 and above and are organised through Virtual Schools. Students attend as part of a group coordinated by their Virtual School and cannot book places independently.

Virtual Schools wishing to arrange a visit should complete our Explore More Virtual School Taster Day booking form or contact wp@lboro.ac.uk for more information.

Location: Loughborough University

Food and drink: All food and drink will be provided during the event. Attendees will receive vouchers to use in a university outlet, providing an opportunity to experience student life at Loughborough.

What to wear/bring: Please wear comfortable clothing and suitable footwear, as there will be a considerable amount of walking throughout the day. All other materials will be provided.

Travel: If support with travel is required, please let us know and we will discuss the options available.

If a care-experienced student would like to attend a Loughborough University taster day independently, rather than through their Virtual School, please see our National Explore More Taster Day (below). This event is open to individual post-16 care-experienced students from across the UK.

Explore More National Taster Day

Our National Explore More Taster Day is designed for individual care-experienced students aged 16 and over from across the UK who are considering higher education.

Unlike our Explore More Virtual School Taster Days, students register independently and attend as individuals rather than as part of a group organised by a Virtual School. Participants will join us on campus for a full-day experience, following the same programme as our Explore More Virtual School Taster Days. This includes the opportunity to explore our campus, take part in interactive sessions, learn more about student life and the support available at Loughborough University, and gain an insight into studying at university.

We will announce the date of our next National Explore More Taster Day soon.

Students wishing to attend independently should complete the National Explore More Taster Day booking form once bookings open.
