Exam Venue Familiarisation

If you would benefit from seeing your exam venue before your exam day, please make the most of our exam venue familiarisation sessions and video guides below.

We recognise that some of you will not have sat in-person exams for some time, or would just like to become more familiar with how exams at the University operate. To support you with your preparations, we are offering you the opportunity to see your exam venue ahead of time and ask an experienced invigilator any questions you may have.

What to expect at the main exam venue - a quick video guide

Main Venue Familiarisation (Dan Maskell Tennis Centre)

This is an opportunity which is open to all students, but is particularly recommended for students who will be sitting exams in the Dan Maskell Tennis Centre, which is the University's main exam venue. The experience is designed to help you to familiarise yourself with the venue. An experienced invigilator will be on hand to welcome you, run through what will happen at the start and end of your exam, and provide guidance about what you should do if you have an issue during your exam(s). You will have the opportunity to ask any questions which you may have.

We encourage you to incorporate this into your Week 12 revision activity so that you are best prepared for what will happen on the day of your in-person exam(s).

Do I need to book?

There is no requirement to book a slot, as it will operate as a drop-in service from 14:00 – 16:00 on Friday 12th January.

The entrance will be via the fire exits to the hall (before you reach the main entrance to Reception, opposite the rugby pitches).

What should I bring with me?

You will not be able to practice an exam paper in the main exam venue as it will not be possible to replicate exam conditions whilst the venue is being prepared for the start of exams. We hope that seeing the venue and being able to ask questions will be valuable for you. We encourage you to access past papers and revision materials, and make use the available study spaces on campus as part of your preparations as well.

Please note that the venue will still be mid-setup to transform the venue from sports venue to an exam hall.

What to expect in Wavy Top - a quick video guide

Open House Experience (Wavy Top)

If you are a student with reasonable adjustments, we are also providing an Open House Experience of our Wavy Top venue. This will provide you with the opportunity to tour the venue and to speak with someone to discuss any questions you might have.

Do I need to book?

There is no requirement to book a slot on the Open House Experience, as it will operate as a drop-in service from 13:00 – 16:00 on Friday 12th January, although tours will be operating at the following times:

  • 13:00
  • 13:30
  • 14:00
  • 14:30
  • 15:00
  • 15:30

What should I bring with me?

You will not be able to practice an exam paper in these venues during the Open House Experience due to the logistical challenges involved and the complexity of everyone’s reasonable adjustments. We hope that seeing your venue and being able to ask questions will be valuable for you. You will still have access to the same past papers and revision materials, and can use the available study spaces in Wavy Top up until the exam period begins.
