Practice Exam Experience

In-person exams may require slightly different preparation to online exams, so please make use of our exam experiences as part of your revision activities.

We recognise that many of you will not have sat in-person exams for some time, so we are providing two types of experience to allow you to visit the exam venues in advance and help you to understand what will happen on the day of your in-person exam(s).

Exam Hall Experience (Dan Maskell Tennis Centre)

The Exam Hall Experience is an opportunity which is open to all students to replicate the experience of taking an in-person exam as closely as possible. It involves practising an exam paper (or other revision activity) within the Dan Maskell Tennis Centre under examination conditions. We encourage you to incorporate this into your Week 12 revision activity so that you are best prepared for what will happen on the day of your in-person exam(s).

When can I book?

We are running three bookable sessions, each lasting 2 hours, every day from Wednesday 25th to Friday* 27th May:

  • 9:00 – 11:00 - AM
  • 13:00 – 15:00 - PM
  • 16:00 – 18:00 - EVE

You are allowed to book a slot at one of these sessions, with each session having a maximum of 800 students, although we may release more bookable slots if demand is high. Please review your timetable and personal commitments before booking a slot as you will only be able to book one slot at a time.

Each session will start promptly at the stated time, so please arrive with sufficient time beforehand to best replicate the exam experience.

Booking for the Exam Hall Experience is now open - click the button below to access the booking system through Learn.

*Please note that there will only be a morning slot on Friday 27th May to allow for final preparations of the exam venue for the exam period.

What should I bring with me?

Unlike the real examination period, you will need to supply your own exam paper/revision activity for your booked session. We recommend choosing material that will help you to get the most out of the experience. Exam invigilators will be present at the venue to explain the differences between this exam hall experience and real exam hall conditions so that it is clear what may differ on the day of your in-person exam(s).

The practice exam material you bring with you may have been set for different durations (for example, 1hr, 1.5 or 2hrs). As in your real exams, you may not leave during the first 30 minutes or the last 15 minutes of your booked slot, but you can leave at any time between these.

As in your real exams, you will not be allowed to bring any internet enabled devices into the exam venue during the Exam Hall Experience. This includes, but is not limited to, mobile phones, tablets and smart watches. This is in your own interest to get used to the exam hall conditions. You may leave your mobile phone in a bag in an area designated by Invigilators.

Open House Experience (Wavy Top and Brockington)

If you are a student with reasonable adjustments, we are also providing an Open House Experience of our Brockington and Wavy Top venues. This will provide you with the opportunity to tour the venues and to speak with someone to discuss any questions you might have. Your exam timetable will state your venue for any in-person exams.

When can I book?

There is no requirement to book a slot on The Open House Experience, as it will operate as a drop-in service from 10:00 – 16:00 from Wednesday 25th to Thursday 26th May. Tours will be operating at the following times across the same dates:

  • 11:00 - AM
  • 13:00 - PM
  • 15:00 - EVE

What should I bring with me?

You will not be able to practice an exam paper in these venues during the Open House Experience due to the logistical challenges involved and the complexity of everyone’s reasonable adjustments. We hope that seeing your venue and being able to ask questions will still be valuable for you. You will still have access to the same past papers and revision materials, and can use the Exam Hall Experience if you wish to do so.
