Self-service printing for students

You can use the local self-service printers around campus to print, photocopy and scan documents to your university email.

We manage over 300 self-service printers on campus, the majority of which are accessible during normal working hours.

Almost all the printers are equipped with black and white and colour printing, photocopying and scanning capabilities. To make sure your printing doesn’t get lost we use ID card touch pads on each printer so that you can send your files in advance and then print when it’s convenient to you. You can even choose to collect your print from a machine in a completely different building, and the university printers can be installed on your personal device for your convenience.

How to use self-service printing

To print to the self-service copiers from a campus PC or from your enabled device choose either:

  • student-colour (for colour printing) or
  • student-mono (for black and white printing)

Walk up to any self-service printer on campus, tap your ID card on the reader (or log-in using the touchscreen), and then print your documents from the print queue.

You will need sufficient print credits to print out or copy your work.

You can use the “Copy” function to photocopy your documents, or the “Email” function to scan documents to your university email address.

You can top up your print credit online via epayment, or in person at Pilkington Library or at Creative and Print Services (Herbert Manzoni building).

In light of the current COVID-19 crisis, finalist students will be refunded print credits, £5 and over, automatically after the exam period has drawn to a close.

Print credit accounts will be closed after the refund has been processed.

All Payments are made by electronic transfer to a UK bank account nominated by you. It is therefore imperative that you enter your personal UK bank details onto the system via student self-service on Learn. This can be accessed with your student login and under 'Student Resources' and the option 'Maintain Student Bank Details'. Note that if you do not enter your bank details in this way before 30th June 2020, your remaining credit will not be automatically refunded.
