Why students love our accommodation

Choosing Butler Court is the greatest decision I have ever made. Butler Court has provided so many opportunities for me, whether it's sport via IMS hall sports, volunteering via Action, punch parties and socials.

The friendly atmosphere at Cayley made it feel like a true home away from home. Since Cayley is one of the smaller halls on campus, it was easier to get to know everyone.

Hall committees and Wardens regularly organise events which bring people together – it's difficult to not feel like you’re a part of a community in halls! Some of my highlights are hall days, summer ball, late-night conversations walking around the campus, and being able to walk over to my friends’ rooms for a spontaneous catch-up!

The hall culture, along with the rivalry between halls, really helps create that feeling of belonging, IMS hall sports in particular plays a big role in this rivalry, which is unique to Loughborough.

As an athlete with a disability, I need to be able to get around campus as easily as possible and student halls offered this as it is so close to my lecture theatres, social events and the training facilities which I use everyday.

I met so many new people in the dining hall and now it’s become a social time to eat and chat up with my mates even if we’ve all got busy days ahead of us and can’t really hang out too much.

Hall culture and location are the best things about living on campus. I was Elvyn Richards by heart at the end of first year so going back in my second year simply felt right.

Telford is very social. In my first year I met loads of people, including my closest friends, even though they didn’t live in my flat. Living on campus had a great social feel due to the hall culture and it really benefited me by providing me with loads of opportunities to meet people and try new events.

Loughborough’s hall system is what makes it unique - hall culture here becomes a massive part of any student’s life, that’s why we have such a high return to halls rate compared to other universities - who wouldn’t want to come back!

With Elvyn Richards being a catered hall, we have a really tight-knit and social environment where we all eat, socialise and meet together everyday which reinforces that family feel to the hall.

I have seen great camaraderie in Royce Hall as people volunteer for charity, take part in sports, and participate in hall events together. Being part of this community really helps a person ease into their university life and be comfortable living away from their family.

Everything on campus is a short walk away from halls. It's very easy to get to lectures, Powerbase gym is barely a five-minute walk (which encourages me to go more) and it's only a couple minutes walk to the football pitches and the Co-op on campus. I don't even have to leave my hall to get involved with activities or meet new people.

If I was a fresher again looking to make friends and find a strong sense of community, I would pick David Collett. I lived in David Collett in my first year and now I’m staying in Claudia Parsons. It was David Collett that I felt more at home in, whereas I find Claudia Parsons to be a little lonely.

Towers hall has a great social life, and that social aspect has easily been the best part of university life for me. Living in Towers, you will never really struggle to make new friends as you see each other every day. I have met so many different people from different years thanks to living in halls that I never would have met otherwise.

The hall organises plenty of activities which are fun and help the flat to bond - there's something for everyone. My personal favourite were the punch parties.

The best thing about living on campus is simply being close to the different campus facilities that Loughborough offers. The convenience of having halls, lectures, sport and social spaces so close saves me so much time and energy.

Hands down the family feeling is the best thing about halls. I came to university expecting my accommodation to just be a place to sleep and shower, but I have built so many connections and felt such an incredible community spirit that I had decided to return to halls throughout my degree.
