Here, Sahil discusses why he chose Loughborough University and how it has contributed to his career.

Why did you choose to study at Loughborough University?

The course I undertook at Loughborough (Accounting and Financial Management) was unique to the University at that time, as only a small number of other universities had similar courses and Loughborough by far was the highest ranked amongst them.

How has Loughborough University inspired and helped you to progress in your career?

Loughborough is the sporting warhorse amongst European universities. To maintain such a legacy takes a lot of effort and time. Such an example not only inspires me but I hope other alumni as well to do similarly in their respective careers to achieve heights.

Can you tell us more about the company/organisation you are currently working for?

It is a 45-year-old family-owned business in the domain of Indian real estate. The firm undertakes development projects, contracting and consultancy.

Can you tell us about your career journey so far?

I have been a part of multiple business ventures in real estate, health and wellness, security solutions, and more recently into venture capital. I started my career from real estate consultancy in 2008, gradually moving into construction and development of the same. Around 2012 I got involved in land licensing in and around Delhi NCR. In 2014 I co-founded a contracting firm specialising in office interiors. In 2016 I co-founded two more firms, one involved in holistic ayurvedic wellness and the other in security solutions for mining firms. In 2018 I turned to venture capital in which I have invested in two start-ups in the Indian retail segment.

What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?

I would say it is yet to come – pipelined!

How long have you been involved in the Loughborough University India alumni group?

Close to three years.

Can you briefly describe the committee structure of the alumni group?

We have a core committee comprising of the overall Chair, Treasurer, Secretary and Social Rep. This is in turn is followed by Regional Chairs for cities like Mumbai, Chennai and Bengaluru.

How often does the group hold events and reunions?

We aim to organize one event per month in a city on a cyclic note.

What do you enjoy the most about being involved in the alumni group?

The ability to connect with recent and very senior alumni who revel in the fact of how drastically the University has changed over the years by sharing their experiences with each other. The excitement level in both young and senior alumni is alike, which is an experience in itself.

What does the future hold for the India alumni group?

With the continued support being given by the University and with fresh faces bringing in tremendous amount of positive energy, we hope to do meaningful events and keep more people engaged within the alumni group.
