Associate Professor Rachel Tan
IAS Open Programme
Pepperdine University
Dr Rachel Tan, is an Associate Professor of Sports Medicine at Pepperdine University (California, USA) whose research program focuses on exercise physiology, sports nutrition, and metabolism in humans. She completed her MSc and PhD at the University of Exeter (2014-2019).
Dr Tan is an early career researcher examining how nitric oxide-related interventions influence human physiological functions and exercise performance via dietary nitrate supplementation. Her work has been especially impactful in exploring novel contexts in which dietary nitrate may be efficacious, including resistance exercise, sport-specific performance environments, and historically underrepresented populations. Dr Tan has a broader agenda of designing scientifically rigorous experiments that integrate physiology with real-world sport application to directly translate science to practice.
During their IAS Fellowship, Associate Professor Tan will be collaborating with Dr Stephen Bailey from the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences.
