Dr Yolandi Burger

Yolandi Burger is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Gauteng City-Region Observatory, based in the Department of Graphic Design at the University of Johannesburg.
Her interdisciplinary research explores how graphic heritage and storytelling intersect within the urban environment, focusing on visual traces, toponymy, and design as tools for shaping memory, identity, and spatial justice. Through practice-based methods, she collaborates with academic and civic partners to advance inclusive urban heritage interpretation. Yolandi is also an Honorary Research Fellow at Loughborough University, where she contributes to international dialogue on design, narrative, and cultural memory in urban public space.
During their IAS Fellowship, Dr Burger is collaborating with Dr Robert Harland from the School of Design and Creative Arts at Loughborough University and Professor Sarah Scott from the School of Heritage and Culture at the University of Leicester.
