Åsa Virdi Kroik received her PhD in religion, specialized in Indigenous and Sami philosophies, from Uppsala University in Sweden 2022. Among her interests is decolonisation, silence, revitalisation, and indigenous studies.

Her previous scholarly publications include the edited volume Indigenous Efflorescence: Beyond Revitalization in Sapmi and Ainu Mosir (ANU Press). Her works focus on transformative political and social change, particularly regarding cultural justice. She runs an independent publishing house focusing on Indigenous issues, particularly in South Sami.  She was raised in a reindeer-herding family in the mountains of Sapmi (Scandinavia). In addition to being a scholar, she is also a community cultural worker and manages different networks.

During their IAS Fellowship, Dr Kroik is collaborating with Dr Ana Cristina Suzina from the Institute of Development and Social Change at Loughborough University London.
