Dr de Cock is a professor at the Université Catholique de Louvain, in Belgium. From 2015 to 2021, she was head of the Linguistics Research Unit there.

Her PhD on Spanish linguistics was the basis for "Profiling discourse participants. Forms and functions in Spanish conversation and debates". One of her current projects is analyzing how Twitter is used by politicians. At Loughborough, she will collaborate with colleagues in the Discourse and Rhetoric Group (DARG) in the School of Social Sciences and Humanities to analyse how responsibility is constructed (or not) when talking about sensitive topics, and how participants manage online medical interaction.
