IAS Visiting Fellow Dr Susana Vale delivers a seminar on their research, fully titled 'Creating an active school culture to improve children’s physical activity levels – Lessons learnt from the Portuguese Active Schools programme.'

Arrivals from 12 noon for a 12:15 start. For those joining in-person, lunch will be served from 1:15pm.

Given that children spend a substantial part of their day at school, schools should play an important role in the development of physically active behaviours. Through a multidimensional approach, schools are well positioned to offer varied activities, combined, and divided into different school times.

Access to healthy amounts of PA is a right, not a luxury, and it is necessary ensure that every child enjoys this right daily. To create an active school culture, besides the importance of a synergistic involvement of the whole school community, it is crucial to develop strategies to implement changes of this nature, through innovative practices and programs suitable to different contexts. In my presentation I will share some good practices that have been carried out in Portuguese Schools through the Active Schools programme.

This event is hybrid format, please use the required booking button at the bottom of the page to choose either in-person or online attendance.
(Please note that in-person spaces are limited and booking is required, so we can manage numbers for catering and also the space inside International House)

By booking a place at this event, attendees agree to behave in a respectful manner such that everyone feels comfortable contributing as they wish. The IAS reserves the right to eject anyone who does not abide by this policy.

IAS seminars are typically recorded, minus any Q&A sessions at the end, again to encourage contributions. The recordings are then uploaded to our website on a Fellows bio page and/or Programme page, along with our IAS YouTube Channel. If you are not able to attend a seminar live, please do still register as we will email everyone who registered to let them know once the recordings are made available.
