Nigeria

A huge welcome to students from Nigeria! We're delighted that you're thinking of studying here at Loughborough University. No doubt you will have lots of questions, and to help you in your search for the right course and university, we hope to answer the majority of them right here.

Overview

We have welcomed Nigerian students to Loughborough for over five decades, and today we have over 120 Nigerian students as part of our community on campus.

Choosing to study at a university which is not in your home country of Nigeria is an exciting opportunity, but we understand that it’s also a decision which requires a lot of thought and research. To help you, we’ve gathered lots of useful information right here.

Study options

As one of the top 10 universities in the UK we naturally offer lots of different study options. You can choose to study a foundation course, an undergraduate course, a postgraduate master’s degree or a research degree. We also welcome applications through the Erasmus+ scheme.

Our campuses

We have two beautiful campuses, one located in the heart of the UK in Loughborough and the other located in London, the capital city of the UK. Our London campus is a postgraduate hub, and therefore is only available to postgraduate or research students. Our Loughborough campus is only a 20-minute taxi ride away from East Midlands Airport and there are five major airports in London, which makes travelling back to Nigeria and seeing the rest of the world a lot easier.

In The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2019, Loughborough rose to 5th place and was named University of the Year, making it the only university in the history of the guide to take the University of the Year title twice.

International Day

Students at Loughborough University celebrate international day.

Culture and community

There is a real sense of community and family at Loughborough University, and our Faith and Spirituality Centre provides a peaceful place for our students to come and reflect, explore and express their faith and spirituality. It’s a place for you to pray, meditate and to meet others. You’ll find that both our London and Loughborough campuses are very inclusive.

Every year the LSU hosts an event on International Day which celebrates the different cultures here at Loughborough with free entry and free food. In the past we’ve had over 40 stalls representing their country – it’s fantastic. The LSU also runs an International Students’ Network which is run by a team of students (you could join this committee) with the sole aim of helping and supporting international students once they arrive on campus. Not only are there are lots of events, societies and groups designed to help you feel more at home, you can also influence the experience future international students have if they decide to study here by becoming part of the international student committee.

We also have a Nigerian Society which is run by students for students, and it aims to engage with students on three levels here at Loughborough; the first is to support you when you first arrive as a new student, helping you to settle into the university. The second is to enable students based outside of Nigeria to reconnect with their culture, and the third is to promote Nigerian culture to students from all nationalities.

The society hosts numerous events throughout the year, from Independence Day celebrations through to music events, socials and key note presentations from potential employers.
