What kind of things did you get involved with during your placement year?
"I worked on a national survey that collected data on spending patterns and the cost of living in the UK. I worked on the outputs from the survey, where I ran tests and processes on the data. I contributed to various projects in my department and was a deputy of a new team in my division. I was also involved in organising two events that took place across the office."
What advice would you give to someone thinking of going on a placement?
"Go for it! I was doubtful about doing a placement to begin with but I'm so glad I did because it's given me so much experience to talk about and put on my CV. Even if your placement isn't what you'd ideally want to do as a career, it's very valuable to know that before applying for graduate roles. It's a great way to learn new skills and meet new people."
What did you feel you gained from going on a placement?
"I developed so many skills whilst on placement and have numerous experiences that I can use in job applications and interviews. It also means that I will be able to settle into a job so much more easily since I've had a full-time job for a year. I'm also a lot more focused on my university work for final year."
