Tony Williams

Tony is currently a non-executive advisor to a number of individuals and businesses. Tony’s earlier executive career encompassed a variety of Board level Human Resources roles in a series of high profile global corporations including 3 different FTSE 100 businesses. He also currently works with Muscular Dystrophy UK helping to plan fund raising activities.

Tony’s most recent executive role was Chief HR Officer for Wargaming, a Cyprus based global online games business with 150 million subscribers. Previously, Tony was the Group Human Resources Director of Betfair plc during its IPO in 2010 and for its first few years as a public company. At earlier points in his career Tony was Group Human Resources Director of Kingfisher plc and of Carlton Communications plc in the years leading up to its merger with Granada plc to form ITV plc in 2003. 

Tony started his career in the General Electric Company plc in 1982 where he worked in a variety of roles within the Avionics Division in the UK and USA. He later joined News International Newspapers at Wapping before becoming HR Director of W H Smith. He then worked in Executive Search for Russell Reynolds Associates in London before returning to a Board HR role as Group Human Resources Director of IPC Media in the run-up to its sale to AOL Time Warner in 2001.

Tony has also worked as a consultant to a number of organisations over the years including The Royal Shakespeare Company, Granada Media and Liverpool Football Club.

Tony graduated from Loughborough University in 1980 with a degree in Economic & Social History with Economics before completing a postgraduate course in HR Management in Bristol. He joined Council during 2015.
