Fresh Eyes on Sculpture - A Campus Photography Competition

Enter our sculpture photography competition for a chance to win cash prizes and see your work on display in the library!

We are delighted to announce a photography competition for Loughborough University students and staff. Nine outstanding photographs will be chosen for display in Pilkington Library, with cash prizes for the two best entries

Who can enter?

The competition is open to all current students and staff at Loughborough University.

What are you looking for?

We’re after photographs that present new ways of looking at campus sculpture. Silhouettes, close-ups, long exposures, or photographs taken from an unusual angle: anything, in fact, that offers a fresh perspective on works that thousands of people see every day!

Photographs must be of a sculpture (or sculptures) in Loughborough University’s collection.

Photographs can be analogue or digital (though analogue works will need to be scanned); colour, sepia or black and white; and we’re happy to accept works that have had significant editing, including composite and collage works.

Submissions can be landscape or portrait, though winning works will be printed portrait (with borders if necessary) due to the layout of the exhibition area. You don’t need to have used expensive or specialist equipment, but should submit your photograph in the highest resolution possible.

You can submit up to 3 photos.

Please see our sculpture map for a complete list, with locations.

What can I win?

First prize: £250

One runner-up: £100

Nine photographs will be selected for display in Pilkington Library. The photographers of these works will receive an A2 print of their photograph.

How do I enter?

Submit your entry via our online form. If you need assistance with this then please email luarts@lboro.ac.uk.

Entries will be judged by a panel consisting of David Bell, University Curator; Alan Duncan, University Teacher in Photography; and Emma Walton, Director of Library Services.

Timescales

The deadline for entries is Sunday 19 February at 7pm

The nine selected photographs will be unveiled in Pilkington Library on Monday 6 March.

Accessibility

We want this opportunity to be accessible to all students and staff. We welcome application forms in different formats e.g. audio if this is more appropriate for you. If you would like to discuss any accessibility issues in advance of applying or to discuss how the opportunity can be made inclusive for you, then please email luarts@lboro.ac.uk or call 01509 222948.
