Foundation Bike Fit

Learn more about what the Foundation Fit offers

Overview

Foundation Fit is a physio-led package designed to fit your bike to you and your goals: reducing risk of injury, optimising biomechanics, and improving comfort. The Foundation Bike Fit serves to establish a riding position which curtails injury and improves comfort. Suitable for those who have never had a bike fit before, or are experiencing cycling-related pain, or wish to reduce their likelihood of injury. This principal package is where we recommend you start and is suitable for all cyclists/triathletes on both Road & TT setups.

This 3-hour service, delivered by our Lightning Cycling Academy Lead Physiotherapist & Bike Fitter, on your bike, will involve real-time adjustments that reflect your cycling kinematics and riding goals. Using a combination of methods and technologies, we follow a methodical and comprehensive process: fit consultation, biomechanical assessment, and contact-point analysis & adjustment.

The assessment

Starting with a relaxed discussion, our expert bike fitter will begin by asking questions central to understanding you and your bike. A specialist physiotherapy assessment will then be carried out to determine your biomechanics within your cycling specific context. Gathering information on your injury history, cycling participation, and riding goals, we combine the consultation and biomechanical assessment to understand where considerations are required before making any positional adjustments.

Using advanced motion capture software, we then record the datum of your existing riding position to begin contact-point analysis. Making evidence informed decisions, we assess your gross riding position before turning attention to the three major contact points: foot/cleat, pelvic/saddle, and hand/cockpit. Individualising our approach for every rider, we assess the appropriateness of adjuncts such as insoles, shims, and wedges, providing commentary and analysis throughout. Where adjustments are made, a change in position will be established, reassessing its effect on the rider and their goals. The rider will then leave with a riding position that truly reflects their aspirations, alongside knowledge of injury predispositions and how to attenuate them.

After your bike fit

Within 48 hours of your bike fit, you will receive a comprehensive report detailing the content of your rider’s consultation, biomechanical assessment, and your new riding position alongside any training and injury management advice.

It is likely that additional equipment will be recommended during your fit e.g., saddle, stem, handlebars, ensuring the quality of your new position. Where componentry purchases are necessary, we adopt a non-biased brand neutral approach, echoing our performance philosophy without commercial influence. Whereby a post-fit componentry solution is required, we arrange a 1-hour Fit Review Service, redeemable within 6-weeks of your original fit date. This is included in the price of the original service and serves to reassess your position following purchase of additional item(s). For those where this is not indicated, the service is still available should further adjustments be necessary following an adaptive period of riding.

We are confident in the quality of our services, and as such offer a money-back guarantee. Should the rider not be satisfied with their new position 3-month post-fit, we will return the contact points to their datum and offer your money back.

Equipment and/or supplies provided at the time of fitting will incur charges as applicable i.e., footbeds, shims, wedges, handlebars, stems, extensions etc.
