Karate at Loughborough provides two sections, Shotokan Karate and Wado Ryu Karate. Both sections offer training for all levels, novice to pro martial artists alike.
Athletic Union Club
Loughborough Students Karate teaches two styles of karate, and the club is therefore split between Shotokan Karate and Wado Ryu Karate.
The Shotokan Karate affiliated with the Doryoku Shotokan Karate Do Federation (DSKF). We follow the method of traditional Japanese Shotokan Karate set by the Japan Karate Association, and we offer access to professional instruction, courses with world senior instructors and tournaments.
We offer taster sessions at the beginning of the year and train three times per week at the Martial Arts Studio. We attend local tournaments and also compete in BUCS, and anyone who wants to compete can do so.
Wado Ryu Karate
The Wado Ryu Karate section of the club offers training focusing on kata and kumite (sparring), traditional Wado Ryu techniques and general fitness. We train three times per week at the Martial Arts Studio, and anyone is welcome to come and try. We attend local tournaments and also compete in BUCS, and anyone who wants to compete can do so.
Coaching and volunteering
