Loughborough’s Lizzie Tolman enjoyed a successful Yonex Belgian International competition earlier this month, returning home with a brilliant silver medal in the Women’s Doubles.

Tolman, playing alongside partner Estelle Van Leeuwen, narrowly missed out on gold in the final against a strong Japan pair. Despite fighting hard, Tolman had to settle for a fine silver as their opponents secured a 21-8 21-10 victory.

In the previous round, Tolman and Van Leeuwen edged past a strong Sweden duo in a close three-set match 18-21, 22-20, 23-21, to underline their strong credentials in the competition.

In the Mixed Doubles, Lizzie Tolman and Alex Green reached the last 16 after narrowly losing to a strong Denmark pair in three sets 21-16, 11-21, 11-21. Charlotte Freer also competed in the Mixed Doubles with her brother William Freer but unfortunately lost to another strong Denmark pair who successfully reached the quarterfinals.

Fellow Loughborough athlete Alex Green also competed in the Men’s doubles with partner Brandon Yap but unfortunately lost in round 32 after battling hard in a close three set match, 10-21 21-17 14-21.
