Following the first round of squad announcements, current students Ben Pattison (800m), Holly Bradshaw (Pole Vault), Molly Caudery (Pole Vault), Jess Warner-Judd (10,000m), Charlie Dobson (4x400m relay), and Alex Haydock-Wilson (4x400m relay) will all represent GB at the showpiece event in Hungary.
They will be joined by alumni trio Jessie Knight (400m hurdles, 4x400m relay), Morgan Lake (High Jump), and Rio Mitcham (4x400m relay), alongside Loughborough-based athletes Melissa Courtney-Bryant (1500m), Amy-Eloise Markovc (5000m), Jazmin Sawyers (Long Jump), Lawrence Okoye (Discus), and Katarina Johnson-Thompson (Heptathlon).
The World Championships are recognised as one of the pinnacle competitions in the athletics sporting calendar where the best track and field athletes come together to compete for podium places.
Last year, Loughborough alumnus Jake Wightman shocked the world by taking an unexpected gold in the Men’s 1500m in Oregon, USA.
Unfortunately, the 29-year-old won’t be defending his title in Budapest as he continues his recovery from injury. The Scot has now decided to focus his attention on next summer’s Paris Olympic Games.
The World Athletics Championships take place in Budapest, Hungary, between Saturday 19 Aug 2023 – Sunday 27 Aug 2023.
