Links with industry

We’ve been engaging with organisations since our foundation as a School. Our hugely successful placement scheme is built on decades of experience, wide-reaching industry links and a dedicated in-school support team. By engaging in a placement, you’ll have the chance to work directly with industry and gain invaluable workplace experience, putting what you learn into practice.

Our courses can be studied as a three-year degree, or as a four-year degree with a 'placement year' in year three. It’s up to you exactly how you spend your placement year – you could work in industry, study abroad, or run your own business. Whichever pathway you choose, you'll build sought-after skills and experience, giving you a helping hand in the jobs market.

Typically, around half of students are offered a graduate job with their placement employer. Those wishing to study abroad can choose from over 40 partner institutions around the world, gaining new insights and cultural understanding.

Whilst it is your responsibility to secure a placement, our Business School-specific Placements Office is here to help and guide you. The placements team works with hundreds of employers worldwide, with many companies specifically recruiting our students for their placement schemes. The Business School has also collaborated with EFMD Global Network to offer students an international search engine for internships, trainee positions, apprenticeships and graduate positions in companies worldwide.

There are lots of options on how the year on placement or studying overseas is structured; you could spend one year on placement (up to three different placements), or six months on placement and six months studying abroad. You can even do a self-employed ‘Year in Enterprise’ where you create and manage your own start-up business.

Accreditation

Loughborough is a triple-accredited (AACSB, EQUIS, AMBA) UK business school. These international accreditations validate the high quality of education offered on our courses, from teaching and research to student support and facilities.

We also hold the Chartered Association of Business School’s ‘Small Business Charter’ for our work in enterprise and engaging with local businesses.

We’re committed to our ethos of ‘Progress with Purpose’, that’s why we are signatories of the United Nations' Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) and have been named a PRME Champion 2024-2025. As a research-intensive, globally connected university with excellent links to industry, we aim to lead research and practice in responsible management. This is threaded throughout our undergraduate courses for future employers to see, allowing you to stand out when applying for jobs.

Career opportunities

The versatility of our degree courses means you will graduate with the in-demand skills needed for a wide range of different career options. From general management positions in the private or public sector, to specialist roles including consultancy, financial analysis, or as a functional specialist in areas such as branding, marketing, procurement, sales or human resources.

Many leading employers specifically target our students for their graduate recruitment schemes. Our graduates have gone on to work with companies including Accenture, Amazon, Deloitte, EY, IBM, KPMG, Microsoft, NatWest and PwC.

Developing your employability

Our aim is to inspire and develop the leaders of the future, we make every effort to help you develop your employability both inside and outside of the classroom.

Every course includes a core module that teaches you key employment-relevant skills, such as how to study effectively, secure a placement and build your career.

In addition, all of our courses include specialist modules to develop your critical thinking, research and communication skills, as well as leadership and professional development. We also offer modules focused on entrepreneurship to help those with aspirations to start or develop their own businesses.
