National Account Executive
Nowadays a lot of jobs require applicants to have a degree and having chosen international business it opened many doors for me with global companies.
Through my degree I learnt about business in more depth, and it gave me the knowledge of how to run my own business if that was what I wanted to do.
My degree is very relevant in my career, because for placement and in my current role I have been able to adapt the knowledge from my degree into the workplace.
Post 16 Education: In year 12 I did AS PE, Psychology, Applied Business, and Spanish. But I didn’t get very good results in year 12, so for year 13 I decided to drop AS PE and Psychology as these were my worst grades, and do… BTEC Sport Studies in 1 year instead of 2. A Levels Spanish, Business, BTEC Sport.
Higher Education: BSc (Hons) International Business
Why did you choose to study business?
Business is what I was best at during A levels, and I did Young Enterprise which I really enjoyed. I also loved Spanish, so I wanted to do a degree subject that allowed me to continue studying the language.
International Business involves modules that cover economics, marketing, psychology in business, and accounting – all in an international context.
It’s also compulsory to do a year in industry or study abroad for a year, which gave me so much experience and skills ready for when I graduated.
Kelsie’s experience as a student
At first I found university a challenge as it’s very different to school, but there’s enough support there if you ask for it and I found best friends in course mates which is always helpful if you’re struggling.
I chose Loughborough because it had the perfect degree for me, and I just loved it when I visited on an open day.
My best advice to anyone going to Loughborough is to get involved! I was Sport Secretary on my hall committee, and we had so much fun organising freshers for the following year and meeting people from different halls when playing against them in sport.
Kelsie’s Career
I am now a National Account Executive at Danone, this is exactly what I wanted to go into after my placement year.
However, originally I was planning on travelling / living in Spain for a year but due to Covid I decided against it. So I found this job on LinkedIn, applied, did tests and two interviews, and now I’ve been in role for 3 months.
I’m loving it.
Alex's advice
One quote someone said to me in year 12 after I got my bad AS results and felt completely lost was ‘aim for the moon and if you miss, you’ll fall amongst the stars’.
In year 13 I aimed for A*’s in all of my subjects, and that is the reason I got into Loughborough.
I live by that quote to this day, so my advice would be to aim high.
