The role of sport in promoting social inclusion and wider social development

I am fascinated about the role of sport in promoting social inclusion and wider social development among disadvantaged groups. I bring the learnings from my major research projects into the teaching of the Sport and International Development module. The first project I have integrated into the module is investigating the role of sport in promoting development and peace in five diverse international locations (Jamaica, Kosovo, Rwanda, Sri Lanka, Zambia). The second project examined how sport and other types of cultural interventions are used to engage young people in development in three small nations (Cape Verde, Nepal, Timor Leste).

In this module, you’ll learn how sport can create social benefits and how major organisations - such as United Nations agencies, sports federations, clubs, and NGOs - plan and deliver this work.

It is the opportunity to benefit from world-leading research, which makes this programme so exciting. Loughborough is known for its outstanding student experience and excellent facilities.
