How to get the most out of a virtual open day

Shannon, English BA

My name is Shannon and I am a student studying an English degree at Loughborough. I am currently on my Placement year as an Erasmus student in Salerno, Italy. Choosing a University can be daunting but hopefully my top tips will point you in the right direction!

Whilst Covid-19 has put an end to our traditional open days for now, you can still experience the Loughborough bubble virtually, from the comfort of your home. Attending a Virtual Open Day is the perfect way to find out more about our university and to picture yourself within our lush, picturesque surroundings.

With a little bit of preparation, the below top tips will help you to get the most out of our Virtual Open Day!

Register or book your place through the University’s website

This is an important step to ensure that your Virtual Open Day runs smoothly as the University can email you the required information for the event.

Do your research

Find out as much as you can about your course and the University itself. Think about the subject department that you want to know more about. Then check the timings of those specific talks too, so you don’t miss out!

Prepare questions

Making a list of the types of questions that you would like to ask our team is useful. This can be anything from your course modules, the assessment type and even how far the local town centre is! These are just a few examples of questions that you may want to ask.

Join the live chats

From your course to accommodation, whether it be sports or the Students Union – try to join as many live chats as you can. The perks of an online Virtual Day is that you can join more than one talk so feel free to join one that feels right for you. All of our departments provide the opportunity to ask many questions in the live- chat sessions. This means that you can get your queries answered instantly!

Check out our guided Virtual Tours

At Loughborough, our 360-degree tours are an amazing way to explore the beauty of our campus. This means that you can take as much time as you want to gain a sense of location.

Ask questions

Do you have any questions on our types of accommodation? Clubs and societies? Our nightlife or even student finance? Whether you have questions during or after the event, our friendly Student Ambassadors and staff are available throughout and would love to answer your questions! Just don’t be afraid to ask!

Sign up to our newsletters and follow us on social media

Although the Virtual Open Day may be over, the best part is that you can still keep in touch with us via social media! If you have any more questions about your course, feel free to send your Department an email to receive further information.

Enjoy the Loughborough Experience!

This tip speaks for itself  Although our Open Days are currently online, hopefully one day we can welcome you to our incredible Loughborough bubble!
