Academic Language Support
The Academic Language Support Service offers a range of support if you need help developing your academic writing and study skills.
Our service is available to all students, whether you speak English as your first or second language, or whether you are an undergraduate or a postgraduate student.
We offer a number of workshops on different aspects of academic writing designed for undergraduate students.
These sessions include:
- Coherence in writing
- Using supporting evidence
- Summarising and paraphrasing
You can book onto these workshops via our Virtual Learning Environment LEARN.
In addition, we have a range of resources and workshops designed specifically for students whose first language is not English. You can access these or make bookings via the English Language Support LEARN module.
We also run a series of workshops specifically designed for Doctoral Researchers. These focus on the language and communication characteristics of advanced academic writing. These sessions can be booked via the Doctoral College Development Portal.
We have a number of online resources that can help you if you are unable to attend one of our workshops, if you are a student based at our London campus, or if you just need a little bit of extra help outside of our office hours. You can access these resources via our LEARN site.
