Alumni events

All of our School alumni are welcome to participate in the events we organise.

Events organised by the School

We organise two types of School alumni events:

  • the Alumni Summer Garden Party which is an annual event for alumni and academic staff
  • Alumni Careers Evenings for our current students to meet alumni and gain insights into their diverse careers across the private, public and non-governmental sectors.

Our events aim to:

  • update our alumni on new developments in the university, the School and its subject areas;
  • to bring our alumni back to the main campus in Loughborough and its branch in London; and
  • to encourage our alumni to help current students and graduates to achieve their full potential.

Alumni Summer Garden Party

The School organises an annual Alumni Summer Garden Party to which alumni are invited. The first Alumni Summer Garden Party was hosted on Loughborough University campus on 6 July 2019 in order to:

  • bring together alumni of the School
  • update alumni on organisational, infrastructural and intellectual innovations in the University; and
  • nurture alumni relationships and facilitate networking.

The School’s first Alumni Summer Garden Party welcomed about 50 Loughborough alumni from as far as China. One third of our guests came from Leicestershire and 15% from London. The event schedule included presentations by Professor Tracy Bhamra, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Enterprise, on New developments in research & enterprise and Professor Ruth Kinna, Director of Doctoral Programmes, School of Social Sciences, on The postgraduate research community. Professor Paul Wood from Geography & Environment delivered an engaging and well received inaugural Alumni Summer Reunion Lecture entitled Advance in River Science – Contributions from Loughborough andJon Walker, ‎Director of Enterprise Development and proud alumni of Royce Hall, led an entertaining campus tour by bus with stops in the refurbished library and the new STEM lab. The day concluded with an opportunity for socialising and networking alongside afternoon tea, live music, alumni picture booth and a poster exhibition on the latest research projects in the School.

Our alumni guests provided very positive feedback on the first Alumni Summer Garden Party:

Great to get back to L’boro. How things have changed. Please do arrange similar events in the future.

Alumni Feedback

Really enjoyed the event today and appreciated the effort involved in organising it. Look forward to attending again in the future.

Alumni Careers Evening

We would like to encourage you to present your career experiences to our current students at one of the Alumni Careers Evenings organised by the Careers Network and LAO over the academic year. At each event, three to five alumni of the School of Social Sciences and Humanities are invited to speak to current students about their studies at Loughborough University, their subsequent careers trajectories, present job roles and possible internship, placement and graduate job opportunities.

Our student’s feedback on the first three Alumni Careers Evenings has been very positive:

The event was well structured and very informational. It was really useful to have the ability to ask questions both during and after the event.

Student Feedback

Thoroughly interesting, very knowledgeable speakers who can give a really good insight into what makes you stand out to an employer.
