Thank you for submitting an application to study Textile Design - you are now required to complete the task outlined below.
A good design task supplements your design portfolio and is an ideal opportunity to showcase the type of designer that you are. As such, the approach you take to completing the design task is entirely up to you.

Design Task
The current textiles industry is highlighted as one of many industries that pollutes the planet. How might we instead use biomimetic or biophilic design to envision future textiles that are regenerative for the planet or for our communities?
Structuring your task
Completing this task gives us insight into how you approach designing without the restrictions of marking criteria. It also gives us a unique perspective on your skills, knowledge, imagination and suitability for the programme.
You are limited to 3x digital screens (equivalent to A3-sized sheets) as a maximum, and the task should take at most one or two days to complete. You are not required to make a physical design but demonstrate your thinking behind your design. We encourage you to compile your design task in the same way as you would compose a portfolio piece:
Original Work
We are most interested in seeing your original thoughts, and how you approach the task, instead of perfect final outcomes. However, if you feel the need to use generative AI, please add in a disclaimer detailing your prompts used and how this tool was included in your process.
