Profile

Title of thesis: Safety on the Frontline of Construction: Working to Rule Versus Adaptations

I am a part-time PhD student researching how safety is created on the frontline (the 'sharp end') of construction. By drawing on both the safety science literature, particularly the 'adaptive age' of safety literature (the 'new view' of safety), as well as the Job and Work Design (JWD) literature, my research will employ action / applied ethnographic research methods to identify and understand the sociotechnical constructs that frontline construction workers employ when faced with variability in such a dynamic working environment.
