TAROS is the longest running UK-hosted International Conference on Robotics and Autonomous Systems and is now in its 25th year. This prestigious event provides a valuable forum where the latest results and methods in autonomous robotics research and applications can be presented and discussed. It also offers a fabulous opportunity for senior researchers and research students to present their work to the wider scientific community. A different location is chosen for the conference each year and this time it was the turn of the Department of Engineering within the University of Cambridge to play host.
Myles completed the paper – entitled "Mobile Robots for Collaborative Manipulation Over Uneven Ground Using Decentralised Impedance Control" - as part of his PhD at Loughborough University, supported by Professor in Manufacturing Automation and Robotics, Niels Lohse, and Senior Lecturer, Pedro Ferreira.
Hundreds of papers were entered for the award, with just 40 or so being and judged to get down to the final shortlist of 5. Whilst all of those shortlisted were aware of the fact that they had reached the final 5, none of them (including Myles) were aware of the winner until the night itself.
As you might expect, Myles was very pleased with the result and told us “I got the opportunity to present my paper at the conference and afterwards also to discuss my research in more detail. It was a really great opportunity to network with peers and academics from all over the UK and that was almost as valuable as the win.”
