Loughborough Leicester IAS Fellowship
The Loughborough Leicester IAS Fellowship is open to outstanding international researchers from across all disciplines and career stages who wish to pursue a two-week research residency within the scholarly communities of Loughborough University, the University of Leicester and both their Institute of Advanced Studies.
This call is a collaboration between Loughborough University’s Institute of Advanced Studies (IAS), and the Leicester Institute for Advanced Studies (LIAS). Successful applicants will be expected to spend time at both institutions, and will benefit from collaborations across the two universities. Fellowships may be undertaken for up to a maximum of two weeks.
Applicants must secure a designated Host at both Institutions. Where required, support with identifying and connecting with Hosts will be available prior to submission. Please contact ias@lboro.ac.uk for discussion.
Loughborough / Leicester Academics should not support more than one Fellow's applications at a time.
This Fellowship scheme aims to:
- raise the profile of and encourage interdisciplinary research and collaborations across both institutions
- foster collaborations between Loughborough University and the University of Leicester
- support (an) academic event(s) (e.g., talk, seminar, handling session, workshop) based at one of the universities, open to collaborators at both institutions
Successful applicants will benefit from:
- access to a wide range of academics in both universities working on similar areas of research
- accommodation
- return travel
- £50 per day receipted costs (food and travel for collaborative purposes)
- dedicated office space at both institutions
- access to an international Fellowship Alumni Network
- administrative support for an academic event
- support from both institutions for future plans.
Application process and timeframe
Submitted applications will be considered by members of a Loughborough and Leicester IAS Fellowship Panel.
Applications will be assessed on the following criteria:
- clarity of vision
- feasibility of proposed activity
- interdisciplinary approach
- proposed outputs and outcomes
- value for money

How to apply:
The deadline for submissions to the current round has now passed. Awarded Fellowships from this round will take place before 15th July 2026. There will be opportunities to discuss how the institutions might be able to support future work as projects progress.

Fellow and Host must discuss travel funding requested – if the Fellows require funding for transfers on their end, or other similar costs, this must be within the budget you request, we are unable to increase funding once awarded.
