Dr Gemma Sou
IAS Residential Fellow
Monash University
Gemma is a human geographer based at Monash University, Australia. Her research sits in the broad field of critical disaster geographies and seeks to understand how disasters are experienced, navigated and tackled across different scales - with a geographical focus on small islands in the "global south".
This agenda has been pursued across three broad areas:
1. How disasters are encountered during everyday lives;
2. The changing geographies of development aid, and its intersections with debates on development imaginaries and climate justice.
3. The theorisation and production of creative research outputs.
During her IAS Fellowship, Dr Sou would love to connect with people working in overlapping areas of work. Dr Sou will be collaborating with Professor Ksenia Chmutina from the School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering.
